Janet Templeton was born in 1808 and died in 1887. Subsequent owners of the quilt were her daughter Margaret Craig (1844-1915) who passed it to her daughter Ellen Davis Craig (1879-1965)who in turn passed it on to her daughter Martha Stewart Carmichael (1902-1985) and now D. Elaine Lavalliere, daughter of Martha. This quilt was lovingly cared for by all the previous owners. According to oral history, the quilt started to show wear and Margaret decided to put it in her guest bedroom. It was folded at the bottom of the bed and left there for show. The present owner's mother Martha always saw it there when she visited her grandmother Margaret. It is unknown what Ellen did with the quilt (i.e. was it on a bed or in a cedar chest?). Martha kept it in her cedar chest and it is now stored in the current owner's cedar chest. (additional details on file)
